Help with fishing soft plastics..tackle fishing record for largemouth bass..HELP??????
Question:
Exactly ! I’m now using the 8lb. for Slug-go’s, Senko’s.tackle fishing record for largemouth bass- What’s different about it? I have the 4lb on my ul rod. I’m maybe not experienced enough to put it in the right words, but I find it really limp, almost no memory. It’s also really strong and sensitive. They sent me some 10 lb but I havent spooled it up yet. I’m thinking on putting it on my son’s spinning rod (6.5′ medium with an Abu Cardnial). I like the 4lb. I havn’t had it break even when I’ve caught large brush bass. pat — Patrick M. Gustafson 1960 Lucent Lane 7E518 Lucent Technologies Naperville, IL 60566-7033 “Thanks King”

I picked up some 10 lb SuperMono XXX yesterday tackle fishing record for largemouth bass at Sports Authority to try on my (newly created) drop-shot rig. I will give it a thorough run through pre-fishing Saturday for Sunday’s tournament. I have another spool for the reel filled with 8 lb LoVis Stren “just in case” I don’t like what the Spiderline is transmitting back to me. I’ll relay my experience back to the group…for what it’s worth.

Kevin, a lot depends on what type of water you are fishing in, cover, etc. as to baits and rigs. I rarely fish any open water and like the following for most cover situations: Texas rigged worms, Super Flukes, Senkos, lizards, craws, tubes, hula grubs and freak baits (Brush Hogs), usually in the 5″-9″ size range, on 2/0 to 5/0 Gamakatsu offset hooks and EWG hooks, weightless or weighted with either screw in weights or unpegged brass weights in what ever size is necessary to get the bait where it needs to be, 1/8 – 3/8 oz. usually. I fish all these on 15 lb. test Big Game line and 6′6″ – 7′0″ rods in MH to Heavy actions. Carolina rigged plastics – lizards, tubes, centipedes, Senkos, etc. I fish this on a 7′0″ MH rod with a 20 lb. main line and a 15 lb. leader. Wacky rigged baits on Owner Mosquito hooks. 6′6″ ML – MH spinning rod and 8 lb. test line. I usually stick with variations on these color themes – watermelons, green pumpkins, pumpkins, blacks, junebug and red shad. Pearl colors for Super Flukes. These colors usually catch fish everywhere. I do not own a bait with a colored tail. IF I want a colored tail, I will use some dye – chartreuse or black, but I have found that colored tails usually result in a 1 zillion percent increase in panfish bites and no more bass….at least for me. Heavy, you have lots of good advice already. I just started really fishing worms this season. I am using a MH 6′ Abu Conlon spinning rod I got from FFO (Factory Fishing Outlet). Matched with a Shimano 2000 size Sedona reel and 10 lb Stren in fluorescent, for line watching. I am using Jobee hooks (Bass Pro Shops) in 1/16 size. They have the built in t-rig type sinker on an EWG hook. I usually fish 6 to 7.5″ power worms tex-posed with the hook point skinned. (I don’t use this set-up for heavy cover, for that I fish a brush hog and heavier weights and tackle.) I have noticed that I usually see the line jump before I feel the bite, watch your line. By the time you realize you have a bite a bass will have it in it’s mouth or that bluegill will have dropped it. I cast to a likely target and let the worm drop on a slack line. Then I reel in the slack while watching the line. If I don’t detect a bite I will lift and drop it a few times before reeling in and making another cast. I fish with the rod tip up high and a little slack in the line. When I see or feel a bite I lower the rod tip and set the hook. I found that letting the bass have the worm for a few seconds resulted in a hook in throat part of their mouth. Hope that helps. — Richard Delaware Bass Stalkers http://www.bassstalkers.com

Yet he watched me do it w/ 14 lb Yo-Z Hybrid line and giggled on what would have been my 1st drop shot fish. I swung that rod like I was trying to set the hook on a muskie with a 10″ crank in his death grip.

<snip – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Bear in mind that I fish with my drags pretty much cranked down tight, and use a very sharp, powerful hook set. Yet I rarely pop off a fish on the set. RichZ
