The south end of the lake has a lot of underwater rock piles. A few are marked by buoy. The rest are for you to discover. Check out the south side of Rattlesnake Island. The fish will be there. Also under the mats, particulary if the weather is real hot. Throw the frog. Do not throw it on 10# test or other famous So Cal riggings! 20# min, 30 better. Stop off at Limit Out Tackle in Clear Lake oaks and talk to Bob Higgens. He always knows what the bass are doing and will help you out. Tell him Dan Warme refered you. I love Clear Lake! Wish I was going with. Haven’t been there since WCB Pro Am over a year ago. Dan

Actually I prefer Casitas though the bass are a lot tougher to catch, even on the spawn. ever see a 18# + just sitting there watching you get PO’d?? Clear Lake is great though. One of my favorites in Cal. and by far my favorite for throwing the Tora Tube right now. Dan

Awesome. If I saw a high-teens bass on a bed I’d never leave until either I caught her or she left. Why are they so tough on Casitas? Warren2

Lake is about 2500 acres. Water is usually clear to at least 5′. Have seen it as clear as 15′ or more. Is 70 miles from Los Angeles. Lake record is 21#’s Lake gets pounded day in and day out, all year round. In the spring it is nothing to have 100-200 boats out there on any given day. And on a full moon weekend in Mar, or Apr? Forget it! It’s nuts. Has a huge forage supply. Trout, Crawdads, Shad, Sculpin, Red Ear. The bass can afford to be super choosy. First time I was ever on the lake I was in a rental boat. (Lot of years ago) Saw at least 100 fish over 5#. Saw at least 30 that were over 10. Any of them I could have hit in the head with an oar. Never got bit! Luckily I don’t have that problem as much anymore. The big problem now is the big girls have taken to spawning deeper. 8-12 ft. Can’t hardly see ‘em half the time. At least this year. Other years they were up in the newly flooded brush. That was during the last drought when the lake was down 40′. Had a lot of great flippin’ cover that year but still tough to get to them. Dan
