I’ll back you on that AJH, same here.bass boat live well fish pump My point was to only confirm Warren’s statement about a striped bass being a member of the white perch family..My intentions were not to say the Striped bass is off topic…
Response:
Rich, I don’t know why some people just assume everyone should know that they really mean black bass when it just says bass. I have seen people post about stripers and sandies and get reemed.bass boat live well fish pump At least it WAS about fishing and not a bunch of politicking, LOL.
bass boat live well fish pumpI know it’s semantics, but the newsgroup title just says bass. Sorry, I won’t mention them again. Rich Warren is correct, the Striped Bass is a member of the sea bass family which also includes white perch, white bass and yellow perch.
Response:
Rich If your boat is not built from the keel up for salt I would avoid saltwater like the plague. All metal parts, including anything shiny, have to be the right alloy or they will start rotting away. Trim that is good in salt may be held in place by screws that will react with it due to the salt. Insidious stuff like the type of material used in fuse holders will not show up for weeks or even months. Electrical connections are a prime example, marine wire is different than automotive which I have seen on many “quality” boats. The list is long. I fish in salt a lot and have had to change a number of fittings and all of the wiring on my boat. It supposedly was built for use in salt. Best Mike N

” and I didn’t use the bait or livewell.” …from the lessons learned the hard way file…. just launching my boat allowed water up to the livewell pumps and they silently rotted away…….after replacing them I added cut out valves at the transom for the two livewell intakes when I’m in salt/brackish water and not using the livewell. said Huck
Response:
Huck’s right Rich. It’s nearly impossible to rid your boat entirely of the brine once you expose it. I know you have a newly-acquired boat, just be aware of the risks associated with the saltwater. Warren

<snipstriped bass is the largest member of the sea bass family, often called “temperate” or “true” bass to distinguish it from species such as largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass which are actually members of the sunfish family Centrarchidae. <snip I took this from this site, http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fish/infish/species/str/str.htm Steve

But I was careful to flush and clean the works, and I didn’t use the bait or livewell. I don’t know if this helps, but my boat is a multi species boat, not a pure bass boat. I will watch closely for any deterioration of anything. Rich ….you’ve got that right Warren!……make sure you’ve got good zincs (unheard of on many “inland” boats) and flush the livewell and bilge pump systems extra good…..a trip to the carwash is a must after brackish water! …and don’t forget the trailer….stick that pressure wand right up the frame for a good flush……any nick in the paint will rust right before your eyes…….steel fenders are for for 2-3 years under these conditions….who knows a good source for aluminum trailers? said Huck from Tidewater VA Rich, check your warranty to see if saltwater use voids it (I’ve seen this), and practically submerge your boat in freshwater before stowing it. Tournament Patch Collection: http://tri-statebassmasters.com/patches.htm A couple of my oldest friends and I went out onto a local brackish waterway fishing for striped bass. I tried for the first time last week with one of them and we did ok, we had 7 fish in the boat in 2 hours including two 6 pounders. This week there were three of us and in the same place, with the tide ripping through the bridge supports, we put 28 stripers in the boat and lost about 5 right at the boat. We were there about 4 hours this time. Several of the fish we caught were between 4 and 6 pounds and I got the daddy at a solid 10. It was a 32 incher and the biggest fish I’ve ever hooked. They mostly came on 1/4 ounce lead heads with grub tails in white. I don’t think I’ll be doing any more fresh water fishing this year. I’ll be back in the spring, but I’m gonna hunt the stripers while they’re in my neck of the woods. I’ve heard of guys boating over 100 in a day and over 20 pounds sometimes. I know the get much bigger out in the bay and the Hudson, but for my 17 footer and location I’m very pleased to have found this. If any of you guys out there have the chance and are near any salty drink that’s holding, I highly recommend giving it a shot. And I did get a few pictures that I’ll be posting on ABPF later in the week for anyone who’s into looking at them. Do many of you out there fish stripers? The only down side is the extra cleanup of the boat. Rich

God be with you Rich! Oh, and if my momory serves me correctly, the Striped Bass you’re catching are in the perch family, not the black bass family. Warren — http://www.fishingworld.com/MesaTackleSupply/ http://www.millenniumcustomrods.com/ http://warrenwolk.com/ http://tri-statebassmasters.com/
