The weather wasn’t any better at Fork.preowned skeeter bass Fishermen were shivering all over the lake. I don’t know if it was the cold or the damn duck hunters poppin off shells in the fog. We had buckshot hit the water about 15 ft. in front of the boat and had no idea where it came from because of all that fog. Next time I’ll be sure and have my gun so I can fire back. If I can see where I’m firing.preowned skeeter bassWell first..I would like to congratulate Bubba Ayers. Yesterday he won the Texas ROFB (south central regional) tournament. We met at 5:30..bewiskered and ready to fish. :-) Sorry I can’t write a story like TNBass. After some breakfast and coffee we hit Richland-Chambers reservoir in my Stratos big, bad bass boat. The lake was fogged in…with visibility only a couple of hundred feet at best. Temperature was 42 degrees with the wind blowing. Felt like a wind chill in the 20’s. We hit a couple of spots not too far from the marina but neither of us scored a bass. Despite the fog and 2-3 foot rolling waves we ventured across the wide reservoir using the GPS. Bubba got his tube bait slammed by a bass but just missed nailing it. Let me tell you right here. I was witness to Bubba’s amazing bass fishing talent. preowned skeeter bass He can ACCURATELY hurl a small tube bait with only a pegged 1/8 ounce weight at least 50 yards using a Quantum baitcasting reel and his St. Croix rod. I would not have believed it if I had not seen it first hand. His 20 years of tournament fishing experience really showed. He was also kind enough to share tips on every aspect of bass fishing I asked him about and then some. Thanks Bubba!! We fished around a waterfront house that had a HUGE lighthouse as a decoration on the front lawn. Bubba scored the first bass of the tourney and it ended up being the big bass too. A monster 1 lb 7 ounce bass at about 15 inches. :-) A monster that day since nothing else was biting. A cold front was approaching from the west..subfreezing wind chill…rolling waves..fog… Bubba went on to score a second bass on his red smoke colored tube. A baby bass about 8 inches in length. Lake min. was 14 inches. The only thing I caught the entire day was…a piece of tree…my trolling motor prop not once but twice…both of my gloves with a red bellied shad colored crankbait. Bubba scored a “coot”. We were chatting about hooking ducks by accident and he nailed a coot (a black duck like bird) with his tube. The line went across the bird and the bird put up quite a fuss. Squawking and ducking his head in the water. The coot threw Bubba’s line clear like a jumping bass. Bubba tried to claim anything that swimmed counted..but I told him it had to have fins not feathers. ;-) At one point we came across two small boys fishing from their homefront pier. The little boy had outfished us both. He proudly displayed about a 2 lb catfish he had just caught. His buddy then went on to tell us about the 22 lb black bass he had caught yesterday!! Yep…22 lbs!! Of course Bubba and I completely believed this fish story. He even pointed out the spot for us. He said “Go to the water over there…” Pointing toward the main lake! We thanked him for the tip and left to pursue our own 22 lb bass. The weather was better back in the coves…out of the wind but the afternoon was not yielding any more bass, so we headed back in around 4 pm. Sunday the forecast was for temps in the 40’s..heavy rain, fog, thunderstorms..so we called it a day and headed back home. We both agreed that it would have been nice to meet a bunch of you on this forum. We certainly missed the guys who could not make it. Maybe next spring we can try this again. I did take about 15 pictures to go with the story above..needed to take another 9 to finish off the roll and get it developed. I will post them as quickly as I can but I have to go on the road tomorrow. Gone for a week. Don Allen, TX

I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. I’m even sorrier that I have to get a new truck. Maybe next spring we can try this again.
I should definitely have a new truck by next spring. Good story Don. Delete ImtheNRA in order to spam me. The Second Amendment isn’t about deer hunting.

After hearing about the weather I think I was lucky to have broken my finger. I can assure you, though, if I’m in the State, I’ll make every effort to make the next ROFB Texas Tournament. Congratulations you two (Don and Bubba) on at least going through with it. — regards, RichG .
