Response:

We have blue herons and put a pair of cheep K-Mart flamingos by the pond last weekend. largemouth bass size The jury is still out as to whether they will work, but we have heard of several folks here in Oregon that used it with success.  We spray painted the flamingos grey and then used some black and white paint put on with a Q-tip to make them look authentic.  Will let you know.  So far, so good, no more predator problems.  Total investment was $9. Also, if anyone is interested in the real fake blue herons…… I have seen them for $49 on the internet, but if you look at the Cabelas (sp?) catalog, they are only $29 for the same fake heron.  I believe Cabela has a website. Just my 2 cents worth, FYI. wendy in Oregon

Ingrid,         I will still probably install a fake heron and see what happens.  Currently, I only have medium sized comets but plan on exchanging them for koi next season.   Thanks for the insights. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – nope.  youngsters dont obey the “one heron per pond rule” when they are hungry.  I have seen more than one fishing a hole.  use something more likely to do the job.  Ingrid , I’ve read that putting a fake heron by the pond keeps them away,  have you heard if this really works?
